Inspiration Strikes At Weird Times

I went to bed on Thursday night like any other night (perhaps a little later than normal after getting home kind of late from a local astronomical society meeting), but it was definitely not a normal night of sleep.  I slept great until about 2:30am when I had my usual mid-night wakeup to pee.  However, when I tried to go back to sleep, I couldn’t.  My mind was racing.

As I laid there, trying to go back to sleep, inspiration struck.  I had the idea for a gaming related SaaS business.  But let me back up a bit.

Thursday, it hit me just how hard it was going to be to get a new software developer job.  When applying to positions listed on LinkedIn, I noticed that listings were getting 100+ applications in less than an hour after they got listed.  I realized that my odds of getting any of those jobs are pretty close to zero with that much competition.  With the hundreds of thousands of layoffs over the last year, it’s no wonder companies are getting overwhelmed with applicants for the few positions that are available.

So it occurred to me that my best hope is to start my own business.  What sort of business?  I had no idea.  Should I do consulting?  Could I create mobile apps?  Should I build a SaaS?  I had no idea and no real ideas of what I would build anyway.  Or at least that was the case until 2:30am this morning.

So what exactly is this big idea?  I’m not yet ready to reveal it.  I will say it relates to video games and its meant to save you money and easily pay for itself many times over!

Thanks to the wonderful world of vibe coding, I’m already working hard (or perhaps its GitHub Copilot that is working hard) on making my vision come to life.

Stay tuned for more info soon!
