Since I’m working on some cross-platform mobile development, I recently picked up at 2025 MacBook Air on Black Friday sale since I knew that to publish anything to the iOS App Store, you have to do it from a Mac. The one thing I wasn’t too sure of was how to set up my .NET MAUI development environment on VS Code since I am usually a full blown Visual Studio 2026 user.
With a quick YouTube search, I found Microsoft’s James Montemagno’s video on setting up .NET MAUI development in Visual Studio Code so I hit play and followed along. It turned out to be the perfect guide that I needed for getting my VS Code environment set up for .NET MAUI development even though the video is over a year old (so it references some older mobile OS versions).
If you are looking to set up your VS Code to do some cross platform development, whether you are on Windows, Mac or Linux, I recommend following along with the video below to get set up and running with the proper emulators/simulators.
Stay tuned as I plan to discuss my mobile app more in the future as I get closer to launching it.
