I hate being sick

Hey readers!

Sorry I didn’t post like expected last week, especially my favorite links like I wanted to get started.  Unforunately I have had the stomach flu and have probably spent more time in the bathroom over the past week than I have with my computer.

It all kind of started on Monday.  My stomach felt uneasy most of Monday but I figured it was due to tight jeans and thought nothing of it.  By Monday night I could tell I was catching something and went to bed around 9:30pm (I normally never go to bed before 11pm).  I woke up around 11:30pm with some wicked heartburn.  It seemed to be from my typical Monday night pizza which is not uncommon when they put a ton of sauce on the pizza, but they didn’t do that this time.  There was actually very little sauce so I found it a bit odd.  Like usual, I popped some tums and hoped they would work.  When they didn’t work, I tried some more which still didn’t work, so I tried some acid medication I have which still had no effect and even took a swig of the pink stuff with still no effect.  I ended up awake all night and miserable with some of the worst heartburn ever.  Over the next 24 hours it would go away, but when I “woke up” Tuesday morning, I found myself with a major case of the craps.  Those in turn were about every 15-20 minutes or so for a couple of days until they finally slowed to once an hour and then only in the mornings and as of Sunday, to nothing.  Unfortunately it didn’t end there.

On Since Thursday, something strange has been going on with my esophagus.  Everytime I swallow anything, whether its water or food, it feels like I am being stabbed in the chest.  It makes it near impossible to eat or drink anything without the thought of jumping off a bridge first.  On Friday, I went to the doctor with this being my primary complaint.  I can live with the occasional case of the craps, but not with this.  The doctor seemed to think it was maybe an irritation caused by some vomiting that I did on Wednesday (I forgot to mention that).  He gave me a prescription for some stuff that is supposed to coat my esophagus so I can eat and drink without a problem.  Sounded like a great idea, except the stuff doesnt seem to work at all.  Now my stomach feels unconfortable when I swallow something, on top of the pain I am experiencing with my esophagus.  So now I am headed back into the doctor at 1:45pm today to either get some other medicine or try to find out what is actually wrong with me.  I’m praying its nothing serious.

At this point, I just want to be well again.  Although I am there today, I missed work last week for everybody but Monday when this all slowly started.  Feeling like this and not being able to make money is not a fun thing.  Hopefully this will end soon as I want to get back into the swing of things.  With the exception  my Battlestar Galactica Live Blog, I have done almost nothing else online over the past week other than the occasional tweet.  No podcasts or anything.  I haven’t even listened to but one or two podcasts so I am very far behind on them.  I am working on getting the podcasts up that we have already recorded but I never got around to putting up.  I just put one up and am about to begin editing on the second.  You can find those at GlobalGeekNews.com

Anyway, that is all from me for now.  I will likely post more soon as I feel like it.

Podcast and Blog and Video Updates!

Hey readers!

I haven’t posted here lately but I will be posting at least daily here as part of my New Years resolution.  To start off, I figured I would give an update on what is going on with my podcasts and blogs to be followed by a post that will announce something big for this blog.

Lets start with podcasts.  Geek News Daily was going to start back this week but thanks to the post CES lack of news, there hasn’t really been enough to do a show, so that will start back on Monday unless I have the time to do one today or tomorrow.  The more I do this podcast, the more I enjoy it, but I don’t get the opportunity to record like I would like, but I will be making more time for it starting next week.

Now for the big podcast news!  For those that haven’t noticed, Global Geek News returned a couple of weeks ago!  So far, we have done two episodes.  For those wondering who I am talking about when I say ‘we’, I have a new co-host, Wesley Faulkner.  We seem to have great chemistry and I think the show has become dramatically better with the change.  Unfortunately, we didn’t get a show out last week as he was at CES representing AMD and I was supposed to fly to Salt Lake City but got sick.  We will have a new show this weekend.  We are recording a new show on Saturday morning with special guest Walt Ribeiro.  Unless conditions force us to do otherwise, we expect to record on Saturday mornings and then I will have the show up on either Saturday or Sunday.  If you have been waiting for its return, it is back so make sure to check it out!  Also, if you weren’t a huge fan of the show before, give it a listen again as it has changed a lot and I believe for the better!

Now for some blog news.  Like I said, posting will resume on this blog with this post and will be daily if not more than once a day.  I have decided to make this blog about anything cool that I come across online or anything that is running through my mind that doesn’t fit on the Global Geek News Blog.

Speaking of the Global Geek News Blog, it has been doing well despite the fact that I didn’t really post the last half of December.  Since the start of the year, I have been posting on it daily.  The Global Geek News Blog is where I put my heart and soul into posts about various technology issues.   Sometimes, posts are even longer than any paper I ever wrote in school, so you know you are getting all of my thoughts about an issue when you read a blog post.  About half of my traffic dropped off after I stopped posting in December, so I am trying to get those numbers back up.  This is the blog I enjoy writing most because it is often about things I am most passionate about.  Also, I will begin doing video there!

Speaking of video, I have said I am going to do it for a long time but it has never happened.  Starting Monday, I will be doing the occasional video posts here and will likely do short, daily videos on Global Geek News as well.  I plan on contacting Animoto to do some sort of partnership as they were interested in doing something when I spoke to them back in August.  I would be using what I can get from them to do the intro and outro of the videos.

Also, I would like to say that I am looking for sponsors for all of my blogs and podcasts.  If you or your company would like to sponsor Global Geek News, the Global Geek News Blog, Geek News Daily, or Pcnerd37.com,  I would love for you to contact me at pcnerd37@globalgeeknews.com

That is about all I can think of for updates right now, but I will post updates here when I have them as I want this site to become more of a hub for everything me.  Speaking of which, I am going to be working on a page or something that lists the RSS feeds and new items of all of my blogs and podcasts so you can easily subscribe to the feeds and find out what I am up to.  Until then, you can easily follow almost everything me on my FriendFeed.

Don’t forget to follow me on Twitter too!

A lazy week

Hey readers!

Sorry I haven’t blogged on here in a while, I have mainly been focusing on blogging over at the Global Geek News Blog.  Other than those posts, it has been a rather lazy week.

Podcasts have been on hold and a few plans got put on hold as well.  Things will start back up to normal as early as tomorrow.  A new Geek News Daily will be coming tomorrow including a new feature that you can read about at the website.  Assuming the opportunity presents itself, I will be bringing back the Global Geek News podcast this week as well.

Part of the reason I have been falling behind is that I am trying to catch up on podcasts that I missed from last week as well as this week, and even some that I am behind nearly a month on.  I am within a day or two of being fully caught up which will happen by the end of the week.

I am thinking that since I already stream the recording of my podcasts, I will start releasing both a video and audio version of my various podcasts.  I will have more details about that in the next week or so as I am looking to team up with a really cool video product for making the podcasts.

Anyway, that is all I have to update you on as life has been rather quiet lately.  If I feel like it later today, I will post my thoughts on the movie Righteous Kill that I went to see on Tuesday night with my dad.

Podcast problems

Hey readers!

For those of you that are wondering, things didn’t go as planned with last nights Global Geek News podcast.  Talkshoe didn’t want to cooperate.  It worked OK for the most part and I love the new features that have come about since I last used it, but for some reason the audio was going in and out according to those in the call.  I did a local test and it wasn’t on my end so there wasn’t much I could do about it.  I canceled the recording and decided that I will just be going solo and doing it locally for this weeks show.  I’m thinking about going back to a Facebook conference call app for next time that I have used in the past.  Speaking of Global Geek News, I will be starting to post regularly on the blog again tomorrow.  I just needed a bit of a break.

I also took the day off from Geek News Daily.  I had the stories lined up, I just had a case of lazy.  After seeing how few people are actually listening to the podcast, that is a tad discouraging as well.  If I got some feedback, felt more appreciated and had better download numbers, I wouldn’t have lazy days like this.  I may still record and release later today but its not likely.  I may double up tomorrow since I already have the stories and stuff ready.  I have been going without a script so I am curious to know what people think compared to how it used to be when I wrote a script every day.

I am also looking at starting to do some video stuff tomorrow, so I will keep you updated on that.  Don’t forget, I also stream my podcasts live at pcnerd37live.com!

More tomorrow!

Things to start picking back up this week

Greetings everybody!

I am sorry for not posting on any of my blogs or podcasts in the past week.  Things have been a tad busier than usual.  After today, things should calm down and get back to normal.

That said, I am really wishing I had gone to SXSW.  From what I have read on Twitter, it seems to be tons of fun.  I really need to try to go to some conferences other than sci-fi conventions.

I have to retake my Cisco practical final today.  I started to take it on Wednesday, but the switches and routers weren’t preconfigured as they were supposed to be, so I  have to take it again tonight.  I still have to do the setup stuff myself, but I have a little more time tonight as I had to leave early on Wednesday for a family event.  I should have had time to complete it on Wednesday had things been setup the way they should have.  I am trying not to dwell on it as it does no good.  I am lacking in time tonight, but now that I know more of what to expect, I should be able to get things done in time.

Expect a blog post on the Global Geek News blog today and I will likely spend the rest of the day before class trying to get my Geek Podcasting Network website finished.

Back tomorrow!

Changes are underway!

I am making a number of changes to my various online ventures.  Lets start with this blog.  I am going to be moving away from this blog being a promotional and update tool for my podcasts and blogs.  I will be posting about a wider variety of stuff in the near future.  I will still plug my podcasts, websites and blogs when there are any major developments, but they will no longer be the primary focus of this blog.

Speaking of blogs, I have spent much of the past two days migrating my Global Geek News blog from blogger to WordPress.  As nice as Google’s Blogger service is, it doesn’t allow me the power and easy of customization that I want on my blogs like WordPress does.  I love the plugins that wordpress has and makes tracking my blog far easier.  I will likely delete all of my blogs on Blogger in the coming days.  For those that didn’t know, Blogger is where this blog got its start.

Now for a quick podcast update. I just put up the newest Geek News Daily podcast.   Some interesting changes are coming to the Geek News Daily podcast.  I plan on using sound effects in the very near future as well as I am in the process of finding some theme music and a good intro for the podcast.  I have a few other ideas, but I’m not ready to reveal them at this time.

As for the Global Geek News podcast, I will be doing that solo for at least the next episode if not for the foreseeable future. Schedules are constantly conflicting between myself and Lindsay which is coming at the expense of the podcast.  Until things change, I will likely be doing the show by myself unless we can find time to do a podcast together.  As sad as this is, its not all bad news.  I have another person that wants to come on as a co-host, but I’m not ready to reveal much about that yet.  Stay turned for more on that.

For those wondering what is going on with the Geek Podcast Network, it is in the works, just running behind schedule.  Hopefully I will have that launched soon. If you are looking for a host for your podcast, email me now!

Starting tomorrow, I will have more personal updates rather than just plugging my podcasts.  Stay tuned!

Podcasts have resumed again!

After taking a two week break, I have resumed podcasting.  A new Geek News Daily podcast is up!  The prep is also done for a Global Geek News podcast.  I don’t know when this week it will be recorded or who will be on the show, but I hope to have it out before the end of the month and then weekly after that.

On a related note, I plan to move the Global Geek News blog off of blogger, to a wordpress blog on the website.  This will allow for me to do more with the blog and should get me to blog almost daily as I had always planned.

Speaking of getting stuff done, the Geek Podcasting Network is a bit behind schedule.  Depending on my free time, I will try to get it ready to go up by the end of the week.  Expect a big post here when it goes up!

Now that all of that stuff is out of the way, I must say I am very excited that one of my best friends is coming home this week after spending a year in Iraq!  I cant wait to see him and go play a round of golf later this week or early next week.  I took the online portion of my Cisco CCNA final tonight.  I didn’t do as well as I had hoped, but I will still end up with a B in the class for this semester.  The next semester starts next week.

Thats it for tonight.  I shall blog again tomorrow!  Don’t forget to follow me on twitter!

I really need to blog more

Hello.

I realized I need to blog more.  I need to blog more here, at the Global Geek News Blog, my Daily Deals blog and others.  Hopefully I can start doing those more.

Speaking of Global Geek News, I did the first Global Geek News podcast since Christmas last night.  I did not have my new co-host Lindsay with me as I hadn’t heard from here in a couple of days and I was at school in the parking lot when I recorded.  Hopefully she can join me next time.  I also have been keeping up with my Geek News Daily podcasts, so check both of those out at www.globalgeeknews.com and www.geeknewsdaily.com

When I went to record Geek News Daily today, my mic appears to have stopped working.  I don’t know when I will get a new headset to record with, but until I do, podcasts likely wont show up until at night rather than late morning.  I still plan on doing the show daily, its just the time of release is changing until I get my mic problems fixed.  When my life gets more interesting, I will start posting more than podcast updates.  Until then, this is where to stay up to date on my podcasts.

Busy and Embarasing

For those of you that didn’t notice, I uploaded the latest Geek News Daily yesterday afternoon.  I was about 15 min early to class yesterday afternoon so I recorded it in the hall while waiting for the teacher.  Since I appeared to be talking to nobody, I’m sure several people thought I was nuts, but I don’t care.  Give it a listen at www.geeknewsdaily.com

I also have hopes of recording at least one Global Geek News this week although Im not sure when.  I plan on doing a Mac edition of the show while not exclusively talking Mac will be heavily Apple focused.

I also wrote a blog yesterday on how HD-DVD can lose the war but still succeed the dvd.  Its an interesting read, so check it out at www.globalgeeknews.blogspot.com

Now that the self promotion is out of the way, here is the story of my pants that I promised yesterday.  It started about a week ago when I had some jeans which were shot and had developed a large hole around the left back pocket.  I had planned on throwing them away, but apparently I threw them into the laundry instead.   Sunday morning I grabbed a pair of clean jeans for church and not paying any attention to what pair I grabbed other than the color, I accidentally grabbed the pair of jeans.  Nobody noticed the holes as there were also holes on the other side and in the crotch before I walked out the door.  Before driving on to church, we stopped for breakfast as is Sunday morning tradition.  It was at this time my grandpa noticed the baseball sized hole in the seat of my pants.  Considering I was open for the world to see, I was happy to be wearing underwear.  I certainly couldn’t go to church like this, so after picking up breakfast, I had to go home and change.  I had hoped the story would end there, but it doesn’t.

Apparently my grandpa mentioned to my pastor about my pants and why we were almost late because of them.  Considering I had ripped the crotch out of my pants when bowling with my pastors family a couple years ago, It wasn’t that big of deal.  Then my pastor decided to announce it to the entire church.  He didn’t specify what had happened, just told everybody to ask me about it.  At that point when church was over, I got out as fast as I could before I was bombarded with questions.  Luckily the only person to ask me what happened was my pastor’s wife.    It was a rather embarrassing day.  Hopefully I won’t have people bombard me with questions about it next week.  Just another one of life’s little moments.

Another semester of school

I start school again tonight.  Time to continue working on my Cisco CCNA cert.  I passed the CCNA voucher exam last night, so that is one less thing to worry about.

Speaking of productive activities, the podcasts will pick back up today or tomorrow.  I took last week off after feeling the itch to spend it programming.  Global Geek News should be recorded late this evening while Geek News Daily is ready to go if I have the chance to record today.  Otherwise it will go up tomorrow morning.

I am also refreshed with several new blog ideas, so expect new blog posts on the Global Geek News blog about topics such as why vista will succeed, how hd-dvd can survive and more.   I have yet to do any bargain browsing for this week, but I will also try to post on my Daily Deals blog as the opportunity arises.

Thats all of the update I have.  Depending on how much I have tomorrow, I will share my pants hole story.
