Hey readers!
I just thought I would share how much I love WordPress.
WordPress is what I use for all my blogs and podcasts with the exception of the Geek Podcasting Network, and I really love it. Considering all of my sites used to be done by hand in html, having a great CMS like WordPress is a great thing. It has made managing old content and editing and creating new content so much easier, its a wonder I didn’t use it sooner. I also like being able to ad all kinds of plugins to bring functionality to my sites as well as get it my own personal feel.
Speaking of how much I love WordPress (I can’t wait for 2.7 to be released), it looks like I might be using it to create a website for a local association. Their old website is horrible and they got a quote from one guy who wants $800 to do a new website, but thanks to WordPress, I plan to put in my own bid for much lower to try to make me some money and get some WordPress converts at the same time. If all goes well, I should know something by early to mid January.
Anyway, that is just my thoughts on how much WordPress has simplified my online life and how I hope to use it to make me some money in the near future.

Hey readers!
I blog with some great news! Geek News Daily has finally returned! After not having an episode since the end of March, I have finally found time to bring it back. This episode is a little different since I decided to go without a script. Give it a listen and let me know if you think its better with or without the script as I am looking to make improvements. Also, it is longer than normal. In the past, I have always tried to keep it to around 7 minutes whereas this one was just over 12 minutes. If you have an opinion on the length, give that to me as well!
While that is great, it wasn’t the only good part of my day. I managed to get my hands on 25 Indian head pennies that are all over 100 years old. Its kind of a cool story. I went to KFC to pick up some lunch and when I got my change back, I noticed that the pennies were smaller than they should have been. I glanced quickly at it and saw that it said one cent on the side facing me and just figured it was a foreign coin as I tend to get alot of those in my change. While waiting for my food, I flipped the two pennies over to give them another look and to my amazement, not only were they U.S. currency, but they were old Indian head pennies over 100 years old. I quickly asked the employee if they had anymore to which he said yes. I immidiately told him to swap the other change that he gave me for any other pennies he had. He did so as he originally thought they were fake until I pointed out what they were. In the end, I ended up with 25 pennies from the years of 1891, 1902, 1906 and 1907. Knowing when I saw them that they were worth well over a penny, I knew I would be a complete idiot not to get them. I plan on finding out the value in the next day or two before deciding what to do with them. I might sell them but will most likely decide to keep them.
Anyway, I would call today a good day. Now time to leave work and go pick up some Chinese food on the way home.

Greetings Readers!
Last night I had the great opportunity to go see the Glenn Beck show at the local movie theater, and I can honestly say it was the best thing I have EVER seen in a movie theater!
For those of you who don’t know who Glenn Beck is, he is a talk show host that has both a nationally syndicated radio show and television show that brings a common sense approach to political issues. Unlike many talk radio personalities, I find him to be very enertaining and he has a very common sense point of view on virtually every issue worth caring about which I really like as its hard to find common sense these days.
While I initially thought that $20 for the show seemed a bit much, it didnt take long to realize it was probably the best money I have spent in a long time. Glenn has a remarkable way of taking the insane ideas that have become common in todays world and making a joke out of them while at the same time presenting them in a very common sense way that is almost impossible to argue with.
His patriotic spirit had both him and much of the crowd in tears at the end of the show. It was one of the most inspiring things I have ever seen.
If you ever get the chance to see a Glenn Beck show, I highly recommend it as it is probably one of the best possible ways you can spend you evening.

Greetings readers!
As some of you may know, about a month ago as a random act of kindness, I decided to get Jason Calacanis a blu-ray movie that was on his Amazon wish list. Due to some mixed signals that I was getting from Amazon, I never knew if he got the movie.
At first Amazon said it shipped it the next day which was on a Sunday, something I found strange since I have never known the USPS to do shipments on Sundays. If that wasn’t strange enough, I go back to look at the approximate arrival date as I was waiting for my own shippment only to see that it says the item wont even ship until the 16th of May. Considering I had already recieved a noticed that it has shipped, I had found this very confusing.
I happened to see Jason streaming on ustream yesterday before his speech and asked him if he received it. It turned out that he had and seemed excited about it. He responded saying that as a gift to me, he was giving me a free ticket to the TechCrunch50 Conference! I never expected a $20 movie to open up such a huge door for me. I never expected to go to the conference since I could never afford to go to a conference that costs thousands of dollars just to walk in the door.
I will likely wait till I have moved to Seattle before I start confirming any travel plans. To say that this could be a huge opportunity for me is an understatement. Jason Calacanis is an amazing person and I greatly look forward to meeting him in person at the conference if not before.
If you happen to be reading this Jason, I am extremely grateful for your gift and if there is anything I can ever do for you, just let me know!

Hello readers!
Im sure you all have been wondering what has happened to me, where I have been and what is going on with my podcasts, so this is to catch you up on everything.
A little over too weeks ago, my mother had foot surgery, so I have had to be her nurse 24/7 for the past 2 weeks and for 4 more weeks to come. She is able to move a bit now, so I am not having to do quite as much as I was.
In other, more sad news, my grandpa passed away last Wednesday. The funeral was this past Sunday. That had me a bit preoccupied for much of last week.
With the exception of my parents divorce, things seem to be calming down a bit now. I should begin podcasting and blogging back to normal starting next week.
I posted a new Global Geek News blog today and hope to do a podcast next week. I hope to see start doing Geek News Daily podcasts next week as well.
For those that haven’t heard, last week I managed to launch my newest podcast as well as my Geek Podcasting Network. The new podcast is called the Unofficial Mahalo Podcast, focused around the new human powered search engine, Mahalo.com. If you haven’t heard it, check it out, as I believe it is one of my best podcasts so far.
As I just mentioned, I launched my Geek Podcasting Network last week. I started the network for three reasons. #1 I wanted to bring all my podcasts under one network, a place where I can promote all of them and that would more easily identify them with me. #2 Saying that I own a podcasting network looks good on business cards and my resume. I will admit this is a bit of a selfish reason, but I am proud of my podcasts and had always hoped they would propel me to bigger and better things. Finally, #3 I want to give hosting opportunities to hopeful podcasters. I will allow accepted podcasters to have their own website and hosting in exchange for running my ads (to pay my costs) and to promote other podcasts on the network (to benefit everybody on the network). If you are a podcaster in search for hosting, details can be found at the Geek Podcasting Network.
That is all I have for now, more next week.

pcnerd37Uncategorized , car accident, clean-up, death, Fatality, I-25, jeep, scrap metal
Hey everybody.
Despite all of the exciting things happening with my podcasts, thats not what Im hear to talk about today. Yesterday I had to clean up my first fatality accident.
Yesterday afternoon we heard over the police scanner and the internet that I-25 had been shut down for the second time yesterday for an accident. The first one was a 90 year old man going the wrong way on the interstate, which is not what this is about. At the time of the news, I thought nothing of it as its not that unusual. That changed when we got the call to go pick up the wreck and clean up the accident. This was the call I have been on in years. At the time, we didn’t realize it was a fatality accident. We didn’t know that until we got to the scene and were told we needed to flip the rolled jeep right side up so they could remove the body. After my grandpa got the jeep flipped up and moved so that they could open at least one lane of the interstate soon, I was tasked with sweeping up all the floor dry that way put down to soak up all the oil and gasoline. When I got done sweeping, they were able to open up one lane of the interstate so that traffic could slowly begin to filter through.
The Jeep had been hauling a very large load of scrap metal. Attached to the Jeep was a trailer loaded with vehicle frames, washer and dryer parts, wheels, rusty nails, wire and even a kitchen sink. Between the jeep, the trailer and all the scrap, it took four loaded flatbed wreckers to haul off with the mess.
This was my first time seeing a dead body. As soon as they said there was a body still in the vehicle, I wondered what my reaction would be like when I saw it. When I finally saw it when the jeep was flipped back over and when they pulled the body out, I seemed to have no reaction at all. Seeing the bloody, mangled corpse got no real reaction out of me whatsoever. Out of respect, I tried not to look at it too much and mind my own business. After they hauled off with the body, the real work began. With all of the scrap he was hauling, it took forever to clean up. We threw what we could in what was left of the jeep while loading up the other two wreckers. I probably wouldn’t have hated the cleanup as much as I did if it wasn’t for the tangled mess of wire that kept tripping myself and everybody else up. There was probably 40 people on the scene. By the time you add the army of state patrol, fire department, sheriff, coroner, us, and everybody else that happened to be there, it was rather crowded at times.
While I certainly wouldn’t call it fun, it put some excitement into my day that I haven’t had in a long time. By the time we were done cleaning up, my already bad back was killing me. I thought I would have to go to the chiropractor this morning, but so far I am feeling better. Below is a link to the local newspaper article on the accident including pictures where I am sweeping off the right shoulder.
Local paper article.
That is the story of my first and hopefully last fatality accident. I am happy to answer any questions that anybody has.

With the excitement of doing a podcast this morning, I got virtually no sleep last night. I rolled out of bed at 6:30am to prepare for this mornings podcast. This morning was a case of whatever can go wrong will go wrong.
Things got started about 30 minutes late, only to find that my recording solution wasn’t going to work. Audacity was only recording me and not Justine or Lindsay. After fiddling with that, we decided to try Talkshoe. While that work have worked, the audio quality didn’t want to cooperate so we decided to try again on Tuesday in hopes that I had a better solution by that point.
I ended up spending most of the day trying to get both myself and a skype conversation to record. At one point I had skype recording and not me. Thats where I ended up getting stuck. After some research, I found out there is a mic bug in Vista that is the root of my problems. Thanks Microsoft! Eventually after scratching my head for a few hours, a bit of out of the box thinking saved me.
I thought that since I can at least get the skype conversation to record, I can setup a second skype account on my laptop and invite my desktop into the call and have it do nothing but record the conversation and I will use my laptop to talk on. Luckily after a little bit of time, it worked almost perfectly. I still have some tuning to do on the audio so that it doesn’t peak like it is, but that should be easily fixed by adjusting the skype volume.
So now that everything is working, the recording of the Global Geek News podcast will take place at a yet to be determined time on Tuesday. All the stories will likely stay the same, but the recording will take place either Tuesday morning or afternoon. I would do the evening, but I hope to go see Atonement in Denver Tuesday and thats a 2 hour drive each way.
A big thanks to Justine and Lindsay for their patience and willingness to wake up so early this morning only to have things fall apart. Expect all new Global Geek News and Geek News Daily podcasts next week. So make sure to check them out at www.globalgeeknews.com and www.geeknewsdaily.com

Well, I just posted up the second episode of the Geek News Daily podcast. I just woke up when I recorded it, so if I sound a little out of it, thats why. I really need to try to start recording late at night rather than waking up early to do it. Im spending much of today working on submitting the site to podcast indexes. If anybody has any recommendations on a USB headset, please let me know as I am looking for a set for doing my podcasts on my laptop.
Speaking of podcasting, I believe I have found a co-host for my Global Geek News podcast. I will reveal details about that when I feel confident that everything will work out as I hope.
I am hoping my local newspaper is still interested in doing a story on my and my podcasts that they contacted me about earlier in the year. It would be great publicity if I can get posted in the only real paper in the area. If that happens, I will post a link to the article.
Im thinking about making a trip to Denver tonight to see the movie Atonement. I dont care for the idea of driving 100 miles to see a movie, but unfortunately thats the only place in Colorado that is showing the movie. I hate it when smaller movies that while heavily advertised in my area, are not shown in my local theater.
Thats it for today. I shall blog again tomorrow!
