New podcasting ideas and changes

Greetings everybody!  It has been a while since I have talked much about my podcasting so I figured now that I have some fresh ideas, it is time to share them!

First, I want to start really pushing my podcast hosting network, the Geek Podcasting Network.  I want to try to build out a high quality network of shows rather than just host my own shows and be open to other people that happen to come along.  I am getting everything ready to make for a big push although I am not sure how big of a push I will give it for the next month or so because I am looking at changing web hosts and I don’t want to make matters any more difficult than they have to be.

Speaking of more podcasts, I am kicking around some more podcasting ideas for myself.  I am thinking about bringing back the Geek News Daily podcast as soon as tech news picks up again so there is something worth reporting on.  I am also kicking around an idea for a piracy podcast.  It would cover all of the big from the week in regards to piracy, P2P, copyright law and stuff like that.  After seeing how much stuff there is on that topic to cover in the Global Geek News Podcast, I think it would be a good idea to spin it off as its own podcast.  Right now, I have pretty much decided that I am going to do this, I am just kicking around some ideas for names, format of the show and a few other things but hopefully I will have it up and running in the next couple of weeks.  I will post more details as I have them.  In the meantime, if you have any ideas for names or what you would like to see in the show, let me know!

Podcasting Update

Hey Readers!

I thought I would give a quick update as to what is going on with my podcasts.

First, Geek News Daily.  I tried restarting this last week and had everything done but the recording.  The day was not going my way.  I plan on starting it back up first thing on Monday with a little bit of a change, so make sure to check it out.

Second, the Global Geek News podcast.  While the blog is going strong, the podcast has been in hibernation for a while.  It could be coming back to life as soon as this weekend.  I am throwing around several ideas for changing the format of the show and I will likely post them here later to get some feedback or give them a trial run to see how people react.  I may even alternate between several kinds of formats.  If you follow me on Twitter and Facebook, you likely already know im moving to a premium content service for Global Geek News in hopes of trying to make some money for the time I spend working on it.  Don’t worry, you will still be able to get the Global Geek News Podcast and blog for free.  However, for a monthly fee which has yet to be finalized, you will have access to even more blog posts, audio content and even video content than everybody else.  I am also going to be having some Global Geek News shirts made which if you are a premium subscriber, you will get a discount on.  There will be two tiers of premium service, one which will get you extra blog and audio content, another which will get you video content on top of that.  Also, the higher level service will give you a greater discount on Global Geek News stuff.  That is what I’m looking at doing and I will keep you informed about that.

Last, the Unofficial Mahalo Podcast.  Unless a major development happens, this podcast is on hold indefinitely.  I don’t really have the time for it as it took a fair bit of prep work.  Also, it seems Mahalo has stopped doing lists, something I prominently featured in the podcasts.  I may pick back up on this podcast, but as of right now, its not looking likely.

Now that you know what is going on with each individual announcement, I have a special announcement that affects all of the podcasts.  They will all be streamed live!  I have yet to set up dedicated pages, but I will be streaming all recordings on Stickam bandwidth permitting.  If you want to see the behind the scenes stuff and watch things go down live, this is what you will want.  Right now, you can access my stickam page by either going to www.pcnerd37live.com or www.globalgeeknewslive.com.  I will have a dedicated page set up soon rather than just taking you to the stickam site.

And don’t forget, if you have a podcast and need hosting, I offer it at www.geekpodcastingnetwork.com!

While I don’t know when, there will be a hickup in podcasting when I move and possibly when I am in San Francisco for the TechCrunch50 conference.  That is all the updates I have for now, but stay tuned for more!

Things are starting to return to normal

I spent today taking my mom around town and too her surgeon who now says she can walk without crutches or anything.  Hopefully she will be able to start doing things for herself again and I can get back to doing my thing.

Speaking of things getting back to normal, my podcasting is returning to normal.  I just put up a new Unofficial Mahalo Podcast a little bit ago and will be recording a new Global Geek News podcast tomorrow which should be up no later than Friday.  We finally have a weekly deal worked out for that so it will become the regular show that I always wanted.

I hope to pick up the Geek News Daily podcast sometime in the next week as well, but my laptop mic breaking was a major setback on that.

Blogging like normal begins tonight on here and tomorrow on my Global Geek News Blog.

I also have finalized plans to fly to Seattle next month to scout out the area before I move up there at the end of next month.  I will be blogging that experience which should be fun.

That is all I have for tonight!  Follow me on Twitter at www.twitter.com/pcnerd37

Im slowly becoming productive again

My Cisco CCNA Practical final is now done and out of the way.  Now I can start the new semester of Cisco CCNA.  While the final went well, we never could get the OSPF authentication working right.

With that finished, my productivity has started to rise again.  I did the first Global Geek News blog in a while.  Hopefully I will start posting on that blog daily or close to it.  So far the first new article seems to be getting some decent traction.  Its called “Whats on your desktop?”  As of this post, it currently has 8 diggs.  Please Digg it!

Podcasts should pick back up tomorrow.  I am trying to find a balance of blogging and podcasting that I can maintain without much hassle.

I just received an email saying that my new Plantronics .Audio 90 has shipped.  I was going to go with the 750, but these are what I have used for a long time and they were on clearance, so I wanted to get another pair while I still could.  Hopefully when that gets here, I will get a new Global Geek News podcast up.  I dont use that headset for Geek News Daily, so it should have no effect on recording it.

The Geek Podcasting Network is almost ready to go and will be up by the end of the week.  A month late is better than never I guess.

More tomorrow!

Things to start picking back up this week

Greetings everybody!

I am sorry for not posting on any of my blogs or podcasts in the past week.  Things have been a tad busier than usual.  After today, things should calm down and get back to normal.

That said, I am really wishing I had gone to SXSW.  From what I have read on Twitter, it seems to be tons of fun.  I really need to try to go to some conferences other than sci-fi conventions.

I have to retake my Cisco practical final today.  I started to take it on Wednesday, but the switches and routers weren’t preconfigured as they were supposed to be, so I  have to take it again tonight.  I still have to do the setup stuff myself, but I have a little more time tonight as I had to leave early on Wednesday for a family event.  I should have had time to complete it on Wednesday had things been setup the way they should have.  I am trying not to dwell on it as it does no good.  I am lacking in time tonight, but now that I know more of what to expect, I should be able to get things done in time.

Expect a blog post on the Global Geek News blog today and I will likely spend the rest of the day before class trying to get my Geek Podcasting Network website finished.

Back tomorrow!

Changes are underway!

I am making a number of changes to my various online ventures.  Lets start with this blog.  I am going to be moving away from this blog being a promotional and update tool for my podcasts and blogs.  I will be posting about a wider variety of stuff in the near future.  I will still plug my podcasts, websites and blogs when there are any major developments, but they will no longer be the primary focus of this blog.

Speaking of blogs, I have spent much of the past two days migrating my Global Geek News blog from blogger to WordPress.  As nice as Google’s Blogger service is, it doesn’t allow me the power and easy of customization that I want on my blogs like WordPress does.  I love the plugins that wordpress has and makes tracking my blog far easier.  I will likely delete all of my blogs on Blogger in the coming days.  For those that didn’t know, Blogger is where this blog got its start.

Now for a quick podcast update. I just put up the newest Geek News Daily podcast.   Some interesting changes are coming to the Geek News Daily podcast.  I plan on using sound effects in the very near future as well as I am in the process of finding some theme music and a good intro for the podcast.  I have a few other ideas, but I’m not ready to reveal them at this time.

As for the Global Geek News podcast, I will be doing that solo for at least the next episode if not for the foreseeable future. Schedules are constantly conflicting between myself and Lindsay which is coming at the expense of the podcast.  Until things change, I will likely be doing the show by myself unless we can find time to do a podcast together.  As sad as this is, its not all bad news.  I have another person that wants to come on as a co-host, but I’m not ready to reveal much about that yet.  Stay turned for more on that.

For those wondering what is going on with the Geek Podcast Network, it is in the works, just running behind schedule.  Hopefully I will have that launched soon. If you are looking for a host for your podcast, email me now!

Starting tomorrow, I will have more personal updates rather than just plugging my podcasts.  Stay tuned!

Podcasts have resumed again!

After taking a two week break, I have resumed podcasting.  A new Geek News Daily podcast is up!  The prep is also done for a Global Geek News podcast.  I don’t know when this week it will be recorded or who will be on the show, but I hope to have it out before the end of the month and then weekly after that.

On a related note, I plan to move the Global Geek News blog off of blogger, to a wordpress blog on the website.  This will allow for me to do more with the blog and should get me to blog almost daily as I had always planned.

Speaking of getting stuff done, the Geek Podcasting Network is a bit behind schedule.  Depending on my free time, I will try to get it ready to go up by the end of the week.  Expect a big post here when it goes up!

Now that all of that stuff is out of the way, I must say I am very excited that one of my best friends is coming home this week after spending a year in Iraq!  I cant wait to see him and go play a round of golf later this week or early next week.  I took the online portion of my Cisco CCNA final tonight.  I didn’t do as well as I had hoped, but I will still end up with a B in the class for this semester.  The next semester starts next week.

Thats it for tonight.  I shall blog again tomorrow!  Don’t forget to follow me on twitter!

A new and very special Global Geek News!

If you didn’t see my twitter announcement, Global Geek News show #6 is now up! If that wasn’t exciting enough, my new co-host, Lindsay, made her debut as well as we had special guest Justine Ezarik. We were a little as we did it really late at night, but all things considered, I think it went well. We got off on quite few tangents, but it came off pretty good. Next time I will remember to sign out of MSN so the messenger sounds don’t get recorded.

Speaking of podcasts, Geek News Daily suffered a bit because I took a lot of time to edit Global Geek News. A new Geek News Daily should be up both today and tomorrow though.

As far as blogging goes, thats next weeks goal. It is my intention to write at least one of my blogs every day. I am also a bit behind in getting my new Geek Podcasting Network finished. I still plan to launch that hopefully at the end of next week. I will keep you up to date on that as I know more.

Podcasting Update

I know I haven’t blogged in a while and I apologize.  Nothing much exciting has been happening so there isn’t much to blog about.  I continue to put out new Geek News Daily podcasts every day.  Global Geek News is another issue I don’t want to get into just yet, but hopefully that will start back up again soon.

I am working on creating a podcasting network.  It will be called the Geek Podcasting Network.  Things are starting to come together with it and hopefully I can have it running in some form by next week.  I am bringing my two podcasts in under the Geek Podcasting Network and will offer podcast hosting to others as well.  If you are a podcaster in need of hosting, contact me at pcnerd37@geeknewsdaily.com

Thats about all I have right now.  I will try to blog on a more regular basis when I get a stable internet (SCREW YOU COMCAST!)
