Earlier today, I was forwarded a video of somebody drawing Ironman in MS Paint. I thought I would compile some amazing videos of what can be done with MS Paint.
Ironman
The Joker
Masterchief
Kurt Cobain
The Mona Lisa
I may post more later, but they are easy to find on YouTube, so go check them out when you have time!
For those of you that are wondering, things didn’t go as planned with last nights Global Geek News podcast. Talkshoe didn’t want to cooperate. It worked OK for the most part and I love the new features that have come about since I last used it, but for some reason the audio was going in and out according to those in the call. I did a local test and it wasn’t on my end so there wasn’t much I could do about it. I canceled the recording and decided that I will just be going solo and doing it locally for this weeks show. I’m thinking about going back to a Facebook conference call app for next time that I have used in the past. Speaking of Global Geek News, I will be starting to post regularly on the blog again tomorrow. I just needed a bit of a break.
I also took the day off from Geek News Daily. I had the stories lined up, I just had a case of lazy. After seeing how few people are actually listening to the podcast, that is a tad discouraging as well. If I got some feedback, felt more appreciated and had better download numbers, I wouldn’t have lazy days like this. I may still record and release later today but its not likely. I may double up tomorrow since I already have the stories and stuff ready. I have been going without a script so I am curious to know what people think compared to how it used to be when I wrote a script every day.
I am also looking at starting to do some video stuff tomorrow, so I will keep you updated on that. Don’t forget, I also stream my podcasts live at pcnerd37live.com!
Today has been a VERY slow day at work. To an extent it is nice because I got to record today’s Geek News Daily podcast early and without having to worry much about customers or other workers. Other than that, it has been a total snooze.
Speaking of podcasts, now that Geek News Daily is back up and running, I have Global Geek News scheduled to come back starting tonight. I should probably clarify that, it is not going up tonight but I will be recording it live on Talkshoe for anybody who wants to call in and listen or talk on the show. I will also be giving away some free iTunes music! If you have a chance, drop by tonight at 10pm EST and join in! If my bandwidth is ok, I will also be streaming video of the show at Global Geek News Live.
That is what is going on with me. What is going on with you? Leave me a comment!
I blog with some great news! Geek News Daily has finally returned! After not having an episode since the end of March, I have finally found time to bring it back. This episode is a little different since I decided to go without a script. Give it a listen and let me know if you think its better with or without the script as I am looking to make improvements. Also, it is longer than normal. In the past, I have always tried to keep it to around 7 minutes whereas this one was just over 12 minutes. If you have an opinion on the length, give that to me as well!
While that is great, it wasn’t the only good part of my day. I managed to get my hands on 25 Indian head pennies that are all over 100 years old. Its kind of a cool story. I went to KFC to pick up some lunch and when I got my change back, I noticed that the pennies were smaller than they should have been. I glanced quickly at it and saw that it said one cent on the side facing me and just figured it was a foreign coin as I tend to get alot of those in my change. While waiting for my food, I flipped the two pennies over to give them another look and to my amazement, not only were they U.S. currency, but they were old Indian head pennies over 100 years old. I quickly asked the employee if they had anymore to which he said yes. I immidiately told him to swap the other change that he gave me for any other pennies he had. He did so as he originally thought they were fake until I pointed out what they were. In the end, I ended up with 25 pennies from the years of 1891, 1902, 1906 and 1907. Knowing when I saw them that they were worth well over a penny, I knew I would be a complete idiot not to get them. I plan on finding out the value in the next day or two before deciding what to do with them. I might sell them but will most likely decide to keep them.
Anyway, I would call today a good day. Now time to leave work and go pick up some Chinese food on the way home.
After a very long absence, I have picked up Geek News Daily today. I have prepped myself on all the stories and have readied the show notes. I am still waiting for the opportunity to record the podcast, but it should be up later today. When I get the opportunity to record, I will be streaming it live at www.pcnerd37live.com. I will write another post when the podcast is up. I will also be unveiling the new Geek News Daily logo as well.
If you want to know when I am streaming the recording of the Geek News Daily podcast so you can watch, make sure to follow my updates on Twitter! My twitter post will likely show up on here as well in my friendfeed widget to the right.
Speaking of streaming, I will be embedding the stream on my own page in the near future rather than send people to stickam. Stay tuned!
As I’m sure you can tell from the title, things have done a complete 180°. After spending much of yesterday at a loss for what to do, my prayers were answered. The new owners of the house called my mother after the auction and said that they had won. My mom was very upset at the time and said that they had been bidding against my grandparents who were trying to win the house back for us. The new owner of the house, who’s name I’m not sure of (I’m horrible with names), said she would call my mom back the next day. Five minutes later, she called back and said that they would sell the house to my grandparents for what they paid for it. My grandparents jumped on the offer since we were out of other options, or at least out of options as far as my mom was concerned.
When I heard the news, you couldn’t cut the smile off my face. Faith and prayer really do work! I don’t think I could have asked for a better resolution to this. That said, I ended up having to replace the pads in the swamp cooler in the dark last night and now my back is out of place and will be needing a trip to the chiropractor.
As if yesterday wasnt enough of a roller coaster as it is, at around 3pm, my computer exploded. I was at work when I recieved a call from my mother in a panic because she heard an explosion in my room followed by all kinds of bad smelling smoke. Having computer parts burn up before, I was certain that is what it was. I was just hoping it was her computer and not mine. No such luck. I threw down everything I was doing, locked the door, and proceeded to break all the speed limits trying to get home. I told her not to call the fire department unless she started to see flames as I didn’t want them blasting my computer with water.
As soon as I got in the house, I could smell that a computer part of some kind had gone up in smoke. I ran into my room and began sniffing around to figure out where the smell was coming from. With her computer being five years or more old, I sniffed that figuring that something went wrong in it as it has burned up two video cards in the past. When I realized it wasn’t hers, I went over to my computer and started sniffing but didn’t really smell much there either. After blowing out some dust, I thought to smell the power supply. That is what had gone bad. Once I determined that, I got the computer out of the house since the smoke was making my mom’s breathing problems worse. After work, I went shopping around for a new power supply, but found nothing. I figured I would just end up going to Colorado Springs to get one like I often do for parts I need immediately. Instead, around 10pm last night I decided to just have one overnighted from Newegg. I figure having one by Friday is good enough as I have my laptop that I can use until then. I lack my 2TB of media, but that is ok as long as I have access to services like Hulu.
It ended up being a far more eventful day than I ever care to have again, outside of winning the lotto of course.
For some time, I have had the idea of starting my own blogging network. While I could never compete with the Bloggers of the world, with the number of blogs doubling every six months, I think that I could offer a valuable service. While I wouldn’t have anything fancy, I would offer to set up and host blog systems of the bloggers choice (wordpress, typepad, ect.).
Of course I would have a set of rules for the blogging network, like no hate speach and stuff, but I want to give as much freedom to the bloggers as possible. The only thing I would ask is in return for the setup and free hosting, that I can run ads on the blogs. I will of course allow the bloggers to put their own ads and any donation links on their site in addition to my ads so that they can make some money as well.
The idea isn’t completely thought out but enough so that I think I will push ahead with the idea and start trying to get things setup so that I can do this. I don’t know how successful it will be, but I can dream. If you have any comments or suggestions, please leave them! Also, if you are interested in such a service, please let me know either in the comments or you can shoot me an email at pcnerd37@globalgeeknews.com
I thought I would give a quick update as to what is going on with my podcasts.
First, Geek News Daily. I tried restarting this last week and had everything done but the recording. The day was not going my way. I plan on starting it back up first thing on Monday with a little bit of a change, so make sure to check it out.
Second, the Global Geek News podcast. While the blog is going strong, the podcast has been in hibernation for a while. It could be coming back to life as soon as this weekend. I am throwing around several ideas for changing the format of the show and I will likely post them here later to get some feedback or give them a trial run to see how people react. I may even alternate between several kinds of formats. If you follow me on Twitter and Facebook, you likely already know im moving to a premium content service for Global Geek News in hopes of trying to make some money for the time I spend working on it. Don’t worry, you will still be able to get the Global Geek News Podcast and blog for free. However, for a monthly fee which has yet to be finalized, you will have access to even more blog posts, audio content and even video content than everybody else. I am also going to be having some Global Geek News shirts made which if you are a premium subscriber, you will get a discount on. There will be two tiers of premium service, one which will get you extra blog and audio content, another which will get you video content on top of that. Also, the higher level service will give you a greater discount on Global Geek News stuff. That is what I’m looking at doing and I will keep you informed about that.
Last, the Unofficial Mahalo Podcast. Unless a major development happens, this podcast is on hold indefinitely. I don’t really have the time for it as it took a fair bit of prep work. Also, it seems Mahalo has stopped doing lists, something I prominently featured in the podcasts. I may pick back up on this podcast, but as of right now, its not looking likely.
Now that you know what is going on with each individual announcement, I have a special announcement that affects all of the podcasts. They will all be streamed live! I have yet to set up dedicated pages, but I will be streaming all recordings on Stickam bandwidth permitting. If you want to see the behind the scenes stuff and watch things go down live, this is what you will want. Right now, you can access my stickam page by either going to www.pcnerd37live.com or www.globalgeeknewslive.com. I will have a dedicated page set up soon rather than just taking you to the stickam site.
While I don’t know when, there will be a hickup in podcasting when I move and possibly when I am in San Francisco for the TechCrunch50 conference. That is all the updates I have for now, but stay tuned for more!
Until this morning, the plan was for me to have the house to myself this weekend. My mother was supposed to go to the wedding of one of her best friends up in the mountains, but decided this morning it wasn’t worth going. She gave a big list of reasons why all of the sudden she decided not to go but the only thing that really had any relevance to me was that she wasn’t going.
This would have been the first time in a long time that I would have had the house to myself. I like having it to myself on occasion so I can crank up the volume and enjoy myself. I could have also used a small vacation from my mother but I guess that won’t be happening.
Now I am thinking about going out of town myself this weekend do find something fun to do. I’m sure I can find something totally unproductive to do.
Also, Im thinking about video or audio blog entries so don’t be suprised if all of the sudden you start seeing video and audio players on the blog, but I promise what I post wont be too long.
Also, i have put up a donation link under all posts and on the side to help me with my moving fund, so if you can help it is much appreciated!
I don’t know how weather is where you live, but here it is hotter than normal. It has been in the 100+ degree range for quite a while now, which is not normal. While it is usually in the 90s this time of year, it is rarely this hot. This heat is one of the primary reasons I am planning to move from Colorado to Seattle.
Not only do I hate being hot, sweaty and generally uncomfortable, but I cannot sleep well when its this hot. When its this hot, I often wake up during the night and can’t sleep in. I hate it, especially on the weekends when I am able to sleep in but still wake up at 7am if not before.
The swamp cooler doesn’t seem to be helping as much as I would like. If you have any advice on keeping cool, especially while sleeping, I would love to hear it.
